Elvin Flores (b.1971) is a self-taught artist with Puerto Rican roots who currently resides in Queens, New York. Elvin uses abstraction as a form of storytelling. In his works one might see a rendering of shapes and colors, though when taking a closer look, a number of figurative characters emerge. Often, he depicts pirates, animalistic creatures, and flowers. Elvin gravitates towards using brightly colored markers and oil pastels. His use of vibrant colors reflects his charming and joyful personality. In the past, Elvin’s works have been featured at The Outsider Art Fair, The Other Art Fair, Pratt Institute, MoMA’s Cullman Educational Center, HAI Gallery and Queens Museum.
