Jayson Costor

Jayson Costor (b.1999) is a self-taught Brooklyn based artist. Drawing inspiration from myths, traditions, and cultural histories from around the world, Jayson creates original characters that he refers to as “OC Characters.” Using colored pencils, pencils, and pen, Jayson illustrates his characters that are distinct through their protruding abdomens, referred to as outies, that carry distinct powers and abilities. Jayson also explores his own self-imagery through his alter ego known as Dex-O-Mel. Dex-O-Mel exists as both his artist name and as different versions of his alter ego, known as “personas.” This alter ego can exist alongside his characters and is distinct to a specific series of work. Each figure he illustrates carries their own personality and backstory, weaving together storytelling and visual art that extends beyond the page.
