Delvis Sandoval’s mixed-media work exhibits a ritualistic element, through his repeated use of elephants as an icon.
“I learned how to draw elephants in school as a child in Puerto Rico” he says.
His abstracted elephant forms appear throughout his work on canvas, cardboard, and paper, mingling with a variety of re-purposed beads and buttons, which decorate his vivid works of art.
With an intuitive sense of visual pattern, Delvis creates collages quickly, boldly gluing various materials onto the canvas in a manner that reflects his playful personality.
“Someday I hope that my work will be exhibited in my late mother’s bedroom in the Dominican Republic.”
